Conoce Oropesa

Integrated in the Plana Alta region, it is located 23 kilometers from the provincial capital. The municipality is crossed by the Mediterranean freeway (AP-7) and by the national road N-340, between km 991 and 999, as well as by a local road that connects with Cabanes. The relief of the municipality is defined by the Oropesa mountain range, to the west and southwest, and by the sharp descent to the coastal plain, where there are numerous beaches and small natural coves. On the coastal plain there are some elevations such as El Bovalar (151 meters) and Tossal Gros (108 meters). The altitude ranges between 422 meters (El Puntal), in the Sierra de Oropesa, and sea level. The historic center rises 35 meters above sea level.

What to see?

One of the main attractions is the castle of Oropesa del Mar, which sits on top of the old part of the town, from where you can enjoy a magical panoramic view of the area. It is also home to many stories and legends: did you know that it was El Cid who took the castle from King Alhagib? Cross its walls and contemplate the ruins that have been recovered from this great fortress.

Another point of interest in this Mediterranean town is the Virgen de la Paciencia Chapel. Here you can visit the 18th-century tilework of l'Alcora and a beautiful 16th-century image of the Virgin of Patience.

And we cannot leave here without visiting the Old Prison, a space of great heritage value. It was built next to the castle wall in order to protect itself from the continuous attacks that Oropesa del Mar suffered.
